Privacy policy

The short version: we don't have accounts and we don't run analytics or advertising trackers. The only cookie we set is a region preference, and only if you choose a region yourself. The comparison tool runs in your browser, and the needs you set stay there.

What we collect

Nothing you type into the comparison tool is sent to us. The sliders, budget and filters are processed in your browser. They're also written into the page address (URL) so you can bookmark or share a shortlist. If you reload or open such a link, the address reaches our hosting provider like any page request (see server logs below). It contains your tool settings, never anything that identifies you.

Your region. The site has separate sections for the US, the UK and the EU, because products, prices and currencies differ. When you open a page without a region in the address, our hosting provider looks up the country your IP address belongs to and sends you to the matching section. This happens instantly at the network edge. We don't store your IP address or country, and it isn't used for anything else.

Region cookie. If you pick a region yourself using the region menu, we set one cookie named region that holds only "us", "uk" or "eu", so the site remembers your choice for up to a year. It's a functional preference cookie that you asked for. It contains nothing that identifies you, and it isn't used for tracking. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider processes technical request data, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors. This is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. We don't use these logs to identify or profile visitors.

Third parties

• Hosting: Netlify, Inc. (USA) hosts the site and processes the server logs above on our behalf. Transfers to the US rely on Netlify's data processing terms, including the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
• Product images: DEWALT. Product photos on product and comparison pages load directly from DEWALT's image servers, so DEWALT (Stanley Black & Decker) receives your IP address and browser details when those images load. Their own privacy policy applies.
• Retailers and affiliate networks. When you click through to a retailer, you leave our site. The retailer, and any affiliate network involved, may set cookies to record that you came from us. Their privacy policies apply from that point. See our disclosure.
• Fonts are hosted on our own servers. We don't load Google Fonts or other external font services.

We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we have no data to sell.

How long we keep data

Our hosting provider keeps server logs only for a limited period for operational and security purposes, then deletes them. We hold no other personal data about visitors.

Your rights

If you're in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, which in the UK is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Because we hold almost no personal data, in most cases there will be nothing linked to you, but we'll always check and reply.

If you're in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and to ask us to delete it. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it.

Children

This site isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we add features that change this, such as analytics or a newsletter, we'll update this page and the date at the top first.
