Verdict: only if you plan to buy a 60V tool. A FLEXVOLT pack runs 20V MAX tools as well, but a 20V MAX pack of the same size does the same job in a 20V tool for less. The cheapest 6Ah option today is DCB206 ($149.00, Home Depot).

The premium

Kit price against the 20V pack of the same capacity, at authorized dealers.

DCB606$199.00DCB206$149.00$50.00
DCB609$259.00DCB2108$179.00$80.00

DCB609 is 9Ah and DCB2108 is 8Ah, so that row compares packs one Ah apart.

Rule of thumb

  1. Own only 20V tools and plan no 60V tool: buy 20V MAX packs.
  2. Plan one 60V saw or grinder within a year: buy one FLEXVOLT pack now and use it on both.
  3. Weight matters: a FLEXVOLT pack is heavier than a 20V pack of the same Ah, check the product page.
