Verdict: buy the cheapest per Ah, which among the single packs today is DCB2108 ($22.38 per Ah, Max Tool), unless the tool is small. For drills and impact drivers a 5Ah pack is the default; take the 2-pack if you own no battery. Buy the 8Ah DCB2108 only for saws and other heavy tools, where run time matters more than weight.

Which one for what
- Drill or impact driver: DCB203 (2Ah) is light and cheap. DCB205 (5Ah) lasts about two and a half times as long per charge.
- Circular saw, reciprocating saw, grinder: DCB206 (6Ah) or DCB2108 (8Ah). These tools pull hard, and the larger pack runs cooler.
- Weight: more Ah is a heavier pack. Overhead work with a small tool is where the 2Ah pack wins.
